A little background information.

I have had heavy horses since I was thirteen years old so well over half of my life. I have always been the most interested in horse care and welfare. Not all of my heavies are ridden, some are ornamental lawn-mowers who may never be ridden due to issues but since I was young my Dad would always try to get the most neglected animals and bring them back to health and so I too now do the same. The number of neglected or uncared for heavy horses in the UK is high and although I wish this wasn't true, I have seen the result of this many times. To add to this, information on horse care for heavy horses is difficult to find, there are many old - wives tales and old methods as well as modern methods and its difficult to see where to start. I find heavy horse care is specialist.
I have found myself lately without a horse society which covers my needs. There is no good information or support for those who do not ride at the top events, show or for those that do not breed and I find myself making my own society and with the help of other heavy horse owners that I know personally and that I have come to know from social media I have decided to try and create something new and I wish to invite you to feel welcome to drop into it and ask questions, everything here is free, no memberships and completely unbiased, I will never take any money for writing this blog and neither will any of its contributors! The aim in the end is to help other people with information and help where ever possible. I am not a professional writer, I am also not a veterinary health specialist or a farrier so all of these posts will come from my / our own experiences and the help we have received from professionals which work with our horses. Everything will have been tried and tested with my / our own horses, I would never put anything out there that I felt would hurt or cause injury to any animal but with everything in life, every horse is different so please if you are unsure ask a vet or professional for advice before doing anything. I will try and update the posts when I can and hopefully it will grow to be a helpful blog for anyone looking for information.

If you need any help with anything, have any ideas for an article or for any other reason feel free to message me through blogger or email me at ladyheidimaria@gmail.com
